Welcome Barry Downes, New PLH Group Vice President of Safety, Health and Environmental

In January 2017, Mr. Barry Downes, CSP was named as PLH Group’s new Vice President of Safety, Health and Environmental. Born and raised near Philadelphia, PA, Barry brings over 28 years of experience in the areas of oil refining, chemical processing and manufacturing, electric generation, transmission/distribution, process instrumentation, safety systems and procedures, and labor relations.

Before joining PLH Group, Mr. Downes was the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager for The Mosaic Company, an international producer and marketer of crop nutrition development. Prior to his position at Mosaic, Mr. Downes was the Safety Director for Asplundh Tree Experts.

Passionate about Incident Prevention, Mr. Downes is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). He is also experienced in the training, development, and implementation of incident investigation programs.

In addition to his leadership roles in domestic and international environmental, safety and health teams, in 2000 – 2001, Mr. Downes served as a member of the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board in Washington, DC.

Mr. Downes holds a Master’s Degree in Education – Instructional Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies from Neumann University. He also maintains two certifications: a Certified Safety Professional Certification, and an Associate Safety Professional Certification.
