Sandra Dominguez
Safety Manager – Substations, Power Line Services (PLS)
Sandra has been with PLS for over three years, working her way from Safety Coordinator to Safety Manager, Substations. Her primary responsibilities in this role are visiting PLS sites to perform safety audits and conduct field trainings, safety meetings, and new hire orientations. Sandra provides support to over 200 employees and ensures all employees follow safe work practices.
Sandra earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Occupational Health and Safety. She is an authorized Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) trainer with credentials to teach Electrical Transmission and Distribution (ET&D) 10 and OSHA 30. She is also Department of Transportation (DOT) certified.

“Sandra is deserving of this recognition because she is very passionate about the well-being of our employees, and it shows. Our crews love her!” said Vice President of Safety, Health, and Environmental Elsie Bentley. “One time she was out on disaster work after a hurricane stormed through a community. An employee’s backpack was left in the rain, and everything inside was soaked. So Sandra went out and bought him new socks and t-shirts with her own money. That’s just the kind of woman she is.”

We talked to Sandra to learn a little more about her:
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is to see our work family go home safely to their loved ones. I love that I get to make an impact to help others.
How are you involved in the community outside of work?
I am very involved in the women’s retreats at my church. We have women from Mexico and different cultures and backgrounds that come to our women’s retreats.
I serve at the retreats in various ways, like organizing activities and dramas.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I love to cook and bake for others. My signature baked good is banana bread and the meal that everyone loves for me to make is chicken tacos. I also like to organize events, like parties and retreats.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a hematologist and study blood. But along the way, that changed. The reason I went into safety was because of my dad. He was an industrial painter and got sick at age 36 from asbestos exposure. When he died at age 51, I was only 24 years old. That really impacted my life and made me want to get into safety. Back then, though, it was hard for women to get into the safety field, so it took me a while to get to where I am now.
What was your first job?
My first job was a waitress at La Quinta hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas. I was just a teenager in high school and would work from 6 – 9 a.m. I would then go to school and come back to work from 6 – 10 p.m.
What do you hope to achieve in your next 10 years with PLS?
I would like to become a director of safety and then continue working my way up.
PLH Group is proud of the way its employees uphold company values throughout all aspects of their lives. Sandra is definitely an employee making a difference.
