Employee Wellness at PLH Group
Date: April 5, 2022

Public health extends beyond illnesses and yearly check-ups. According to the American Public Health Association, public health “promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play.” That puts the responsibility of public health on our city and town officials, school leaders, employers, and community members. PLH Group recognizes public health as a critical component of our communities and is joining American Public Health Association for National Public Health Week (NPHW) during the week of April 4-10 to promote comprehensive physical and mental health throughout the country, creating healthier citizens and employees.
The 2022 NPHW campaign theme reminds participants that “Health is Where You Are”. That is a sentiment echoed throughout PLH Group’s safety culture.
“When we talk about health and safety on our job sites and in our offices, we mean more than preventing incidents, though that is a crucial component. But we are also talking about ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. We meet our employees where they are and recognize the specific needs of each worker. We make our offices accessible and provide specific PPE, when necessary,” said Vice President of Safety, Health, and Environmental Elsie Bentley.

Since public health is so extensive, NPHW assigned a different topic to each day of the week and broke down each topic as it applies to science, action, health, and where you are.
These breakdowns provoke thought and discussions for organizations and teams, like those of PLH Group, to identify ways to encourage a healthier workplace.
NPHW Daily topics include:
- Racism
- Public Health Workforce
- Community
- World Health Day
- Accessibility
- Climate Change
- Mental Wellness

Elsie Bentley added, “As a nation, we need to redefine workplace mental and physical health. PLH Group is already doing this by ensuring our employees are actively involved in our safety culture. They have the obligation to stop the work task when a situation seems unsafe, let us know when special accommodations are needed, take time to reset their psychological wellbeing, be actively involved in the communities we serve, steward our environment, and ensure equality throughout our diverse workforce.”
Join PLH Group and other businesses, organizations, and individuals throughout the nation to recognize National Public Health Week during the first full week in April. Demonstrate to others that health is where you are.
