PLH Group Goes “All-In” for National Safety Stand-Down Week
Date: May 3, 2019
In preparation for 2019’s National Safety Stand-down Week (May 6th -10th), Elsie Bentley, Safety Director at PLH Group has been ramping up for weeks to join the nationwide awareness week to raise awareness around falls on construction sites. Fall hazards remain the leading cause of death for construction employees; especially high elevation jobs like energy infrastructure and power line construction. The Safety Director has mounted a huge push to distribute materials, schedule meetings, and engage the employees by communicating with all 11 PLH Group entities’ Safety Managers.
OSHA began this voluntary campaign six years ago and is making education and support easily accessible. On this OSHA webpage there are ideas and tools on how to facilitate and engage field employees during the upcoming awareness week. Companies can find fact sheets, hard hat stickers, posters, Hazard Alert cards, Fall Protection Harness training, and more. Safety Directors are encouraged to provide feedback about their Stand-Down activities and will earn a Certificate of Participation from OSHA.
In addition, PLH Group has gone the extra mile with their social media platforms by planning to share videos, post graphics and stories using #StandDown4Safety. Ms. Bentley believes the involvement of all PLH Group entities, will continue to solidify their commitment to safety training and prevention of future falls on all PLH Group utility construction jobs.
