PLH Renews OSHA Partnership
Date: February 4, 2014
PLH Group, Inc. (“PLH”) today announced that President and CEO Mark Crowson and Vice President of Safety and Training Matthew Compher participated in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s renewal of its national strategic partnership with electrical transmission and distribution industry leaders on December 19, 2013, in Washington D.C.
The partnership aligns OSHA with PLH and 12 other participating organizations under a common goal: to reduce injuries, illnesses and deaths among linemen and other electrical workers. Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels, along with Crowson and representatives from the other partnering organizations, each signed the renewal agreement. U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez stopped by to congratulate and speak with the team.
“Safety is one of our core values and a mission of our company. The OSHA strategic partnership and similar initiatives ensure that we remain proactive in our safety efforts,” said Crowson. “We were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of Secretary of Labor Perez. His presence validated the importance of this program,” added Compher.
The partnership includes ten of the nation’s largest electrical transmission and distribution contractors, the IBEW labor union, Edison Electric Institute (EEI), and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), all working cooperatively to implement health and safety-relatedbest practices and training. Since the partnership was established in 2004, there has been a noticeable reduction in the injury, illness and fatality rates among the partners’ nearly 26,000 workers. According to OSHA, fatalities among these workers have dropped from 11 in 2004 to 1 in 2013.
