A Conduit for Success – The PLH Group Women’s Resource Group
Date: January 29, 2019

When we speak of conduits, we usually think of water or electricity being distributed or transmitted through them, or a pipe, tube, or tile protecting electric wires or cables. However, the word ‘conduit’ comes from the old Latin word conducere, which means ‘bring together.’ With that concept in mind, PLH Group has started an internal resource group designed to connect the women within the company.
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) encourages every workplace to have a safety and health program in place year-round; however, once a year it brings special awareness with “Safe + Sound Week.” This year Safe + Sound Week is recognized August 12–18, and PLH Group and all its energy infrastructure construction companies are participating again.
PLH Group will focus on several key areas. One is distracted driving, which is more dangerous than drunk driving and equally as dangerous as drowsy driving. With drunk driving, the driver has SOME reaction and, therefore, a chance to rectify the situation. With distracted and drowsy driving, reaction time falls to zero because the driver is 100% absorbed in something else.
The idea, in short, is to facilitate a support group that brings together all female PLH Group employees and connect them to each other as well as outside talent, for guidance, continuing education, and more possibilities.
Three committees have been formed with plans to expand in the future:
- Events
- Health & Wellness
- Philanthropic
PLH Group supports MEA Energetic Women Conference every year and sends many attendees. See story.
Mission Statement
The PLH Group Women’s Resource Group aims to promote, support and empower women’s leadership, success and growth through development, mentorship and networking for the benefit of the Company and the community.
From this starting point, PLH Group women employed in all aspects of the company’s success will be able to share ideas, network and communicate through the company’s intranet site.
PLH Group is dedicated to creating a landscape where female employees have a conduit to network internally, promote, support and mentor others. Forming an internal Women’s Group at PLH Group was the natural outcome from PLH Group’s involvement in the MEA Energetic Women Conference, a non-profit international organization whose mission is “to prepare women within the energy industry for leadership roles.” It’s important that women are held up as great examples in the industry, and that viable, long-term and rewarding careers in this sector remain within reach, regardless of gender.
In the years ahead, PLH Group Women’s Resource Group hopes to expand and conduct events which make it easier for women to be conduits for the future of energy—sparks that ignite excitement for the growth to come.
