PLH GROUP NEWS
A New Year to PREVENT
Date: January 8, 2022

It’s a new year. Time to make the list of all the things we will do this year – exercise more, eat better, reconnect with lost friends, go back to school. PLH Group is taking a different approach to New Years’ resolutions. Instead of focusing on what will happen this year, PLH Group companies focus on what won’t happen – injuries. And PLH Group’s health and safety program is the driving force of this initiative.
“Keeping employees safe is always our top concern. Since PLH Group has 11 organizations performing a variety of pipeline and power line work throughout the energy construction process all over North America, this task is complex,” said Vice President of Safety, Health, and Environmental Elsie Bentley. “With the health and safety of our workforce a leading priority, we had to come up with an easy-to-navigate system to assist our employees. Our PREVENT safety system is a way for employees to methodically think and talk through the decision-making process to arrive at functional solutions to issues encountered throughout their work, keeping not only themselves but the entire jobsite safe.”
The PREVENT safety system is a proprietary program that uses technology to put visual and practical teaching tools into the hands of every employee at all times.
The program – which is both behavioral- and performance-based – encourages a questioning attitude to guide employees to safe solutions to situations encountered during task execution. Other key components of the PLH Group safety program include morning meetings, job hazard analyses (JHA), jobsite safety audits, Behavior-based safety (BBS) observers, stop work responsibility, and Stop. Think. Act. Review. (STAR).

“Our safety program is a robust program that has added to our company’s success for years,” said Elsie. “A program is just a program, though. It’s our employees that determine its success. By following and enhancing the program, our employees further their commitments to keeping each other safe every single day.”
Though it may be a new year, PLH Group’s employee commitment and dedication to its safety program has not changed. Management and employees alike strive to keep the entire workforce safe every day. PLH Group has big plans for 2022. Injuries are not one of them.
