Running for the Fallen – A Race Towards Safety
Date: June 7, 2019

Safety in the powerline and energy construction business is always ‘top of mind’ for employees and managers alike and so, on National Lineman Appreciation Day, the employees of PLH Group tied their shoes and donned their gear to remember fallen lineman in a 5K run around Lake Carolyn in Irving, Texas. On April 18th, spearheaded by the PLH Group Women’s Resource Group, the participants carried on the tradition the U.S. Senate resolution set in 2013—to recognize fallen and severely injured lineman and their families.
The 5K course took participants around one of the most beautiful places in the Dallas Area, encompassing the Mandalay Canal of Las Colinas. The runners and walkers were taken on a meandering journey by office buildings, restaurants and shops with Old World appeal, adding another memorable layer on an already stirring day. The Fallen Linemen Organization; a 501(c)(3) was started to memorialize and care for the families of fallen electrical line workers and supports events like this, helping to spread the word and bring awareness.

The sense of accomplishment in the end was only topped by knowing the participants had honored the ones who risk their lives daily. Going forward, PLH Group, and many other companies in the utility construction industry, continue the race to safety for the men and women who serve in this essential role, benefitting us all.
