PLH Group Partners with OSHA for SAFE + SOUND Week 2019
Date: August 8, 2019
PLH Group and its utility construction entities will join forces with OSHA for SAFE + SOUND Week taking place August 12-18th, 2019. This nationwide event is held throughout North America and promotes safety and health programs in the construction industry. The mission of SAFE + SOUND week aligns with PLH’s PREVENT® System, which both identify and mitigate hazards on the jobsite before injury can occur. Each of the pipeline and powerline groups within PLH Group has a strong commitment to workplace safety and health, and we are proud to participate in SAFE + SOUND Week 2019.

Injury and illness prevention programs promote safety and health in the workplace and aim to prevent hazards before injuries occur. Reducing the potential opportunities for injuries results in a safer work environment with increased productivity and employee satisfaction as well as decreased costs and employee turnover.
Although implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act almost fifty years ago resulted in a 60% drop in occupational injuries and deaths, there is still work to be done. More than 4.1 million workers are injured on the job every year, resulting in over 4,500 fatalities annually. That means 4,500 people don’t get to go home to their families and friends and 4,500 crews end the day one person short.
During SAFE + SOUND week, construction contractors like PLH Group focus their energy on promoting health and safety programs to identify and resolve potential hazards before they occur. PLH Group Safety Director, Elsie Bentley is already coordinating efforts for Safe + Sound Week with all 11 entities. Topics such as alcohol awareness to distracted driving will be part of the weeklong awareness program.
When all workers encourage safe practices in the workplace, we can keep employees happy and healthy and allow them to go home to their families at the end of the day.
